The Chapel without Light Fixtures

Replacing Knob and tube wiring at the Catherine Creek Community Center

Thanks to the Oregon Cultural Trust’s Community Development Grant we received in Fall of 2021, the Friends of the Historic Union Community Hall operating the Catherine Creek Community in Union, Oregon was able to hire Second Mile Electrical and say good-bye to the old knob and tube wiring along with a few extra electrical upgrades.

To save money volunteers repurposed light fixtures in the Chapel by bronzing them before Second Mile Electric re-hung the fixtures. It is very exciting as with the new electrical update in the Chapel there will be availability to host plays and musical events in addition to Chapel services.

The Community Hall was able to get new L.E.D light fixtures installed which is a wonderful addition. A new security system was installed for the safety of not only our building but our attendees.

While hard work has been completed by the electricians, it has been an eventful time with the lovely squirrels who have made our attic of the historic building their home. During the process we have learned that our knob and tube wiring has been susceptible to squirrel damage. Second Mile Electric has done a great job fixing all the areas our little friends have created havoc in. It has been a pleasure to partner with Oregon Cultural Trust and we look forward to many more years of this wonderful partnership.
